Jordan Unites Around a National Approach to Sustainable Tourism
27th February 2024
Alison Burgh recently returned from Jordan, where she was working with the Jordan Tourist Board, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Jordan Trail Association, and the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association.
As part of the CBI Netherland’s Jordan Sustainable Tourism Programme 2021-25, Alison is working with JTBs senior management, together with local CSR consultants Lina Al-Khaled and Rawan Attallah, to develop a 12-month training curriculum for the organisation on the scope of sustainable tourism and how it impacts on the national tourist board’s research, operations, product development and marketing activities.
During her visit, Alison was also in Aqaba to meet Iyad Kayali, the Green Destinations representative for the MENA region, to start work on Aqaba’s ambition to become the first Green Destinations certified city in the Middle East. Next week, ASEZA’s Chief Commissioner will be at ITB to sign the official agreement with Green Destinations and attend the award ceremony for the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories competition.
Back in Amman work began with the Jordan Trail Association to embed sustainable practices into their community Service Provider Standards and the new Sustainable Tourism Practitioners Group was launched, bringing together sustainability champions from across the country.
2024 will be an exciting and busy year, executing these activities with such committed and motivated partners.
