Tourism Satellite Account Preparation for Tunisia
6th October 2020
Acorn is working with USAID on a new project in Tunisia preparing the country for the implementation of a Tourism Satellite Account.
The USAID-funded Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Success project (JOBS) has identified tourism as an area of strategic focus. Lack of accurate information on tourism’s contribution to the economy represents an obstacle for the industry as well as for policy makers. Tunisia currently only tracks basic information on visitors and their spending.
Implementing a Tourism Satellite Account, as part of the national accounts tables, will greatly improve decision-making in the sector for both policymakers as well as private industry. The backbone of a Tourism Satellite Account is the International Tourism Visitor Survey (ITVS), also known as the Arrivals and Departures Survey. This measures visitor expenditures, activities, motivations, and satisfaction. Acorn is undertaking a review of this survey, as well as evaluating domestic tourism data and supply-side national accounts that will establish the foundation for TSA implementation.
