Outdoor Activities Development Plan for Shropshire
15th January 2025
We start the year working with Shropshire Council to create a comprehensive Outdoor Activities Development Plan aimed at enhancing walking, cycling, and outdoor activities across the county. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support Shropshire’s visitor economy and build on Shropshire’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, with the goal of improving outdoor offerings for residents and visitors alike. By fostering connections between local communities, businesses, and the natural environment, the plan aims to position Shropshire as a vibrant destination for outdoor recreation while maintaining its commitment to sustainability and accessibility.
We will undertake a visitor survey to better understand the preferences, behaviours, and barriers faced by both visitors and non-visitors. Insights from this survey, combined with an analysis of the region and its visitor economy, stakeholder engagement and workshops, will inform the Development Plan, which will identify opportunities to improve infrastructure, increase participation and attract more visitors to the region. This work will align with existing regional strategies and trends, ensuring a cohesive approach to enhancing Shropshire’s outdoor activity offerings.
The project starts early in 2025, with the final plan expected by March. Acorn Tourism is excited to contribute to this important initiative, helping Shropshire unlock its full potential as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
