Tourism Statistics Workshop in Sierra Leone
13th February 2025
Kevin Millington, Director of Acorn Tourism Consulting, is leading a tourism statistics workshop supported by the World Bank in Sierra Leone. The event brings together participants from key organisations, including the National Tourism Board, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and Statistics Sierra Leone, to strengthen their skills in tourism data collection and analysis.
The week-long workshop focuses on enhancing participants’ understanding of tourism’s economic contribution, covering supply and demand statistics and the development of a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA)—a key tool for measuring tourism’s impact on the national economy.
The World Bank’s support underscores its commitment to sustainable economic growth in Sierra Leone. By building local expertise in tourism data analysis, the initiative promotes inclusive and resilient tourism development in line with global best practices.
Acorn Tourism Consulting, recognised for its evidence-based approach, is collaborating with Sierra Leone’s stakeholders to advance tourism statistics. This initiative highlights Acorn’s commitment to co-creating solutions that support sustainable economic growth and long-term development.
The outcomes of the workshop will contribute to more accurate assessments of the tourism sector’s impact, supporting policy-making and investment strategies that promote sustainable growth and resilience within Sierra Leone’s tourism industry.
