Falkland Islands Take a Step Forward in Tourism Sustainability
14th October 2025
The Falkland Islands have completed their first Business Sector Sustainability Scan (BSSS), led by Acorn Tourism Consulting in collaboration with Green Destinations.
Conducted between July and August 2025, the Scan engaged tourism businesses across accommodation, guiding, and hospitality sectors to assess their sustainability practices using the Good Travel Scan, aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria.
The results also demonstrate that sustainability is already embedded in the Falklands’ tourism culture, particularly in how businesses respect local identity and engage with the community. As the destination continues to grow, the insights from the BSSS will inform targeted policy interventions, training, and future investment to enhance sustainability across the sector.
By identifying clear strengths and opportunities for improvement, the BSSS provides the Falkland Islands with a valuable roadmap for strengthening sustainable tourism, ensuring that economic growth continues in harmony with the islands’ unique environment, wildlife, and cultural heritage.
Acorn Tourism Consulting is proud to have supported this initiative, helping the Falkland Islands take measurable steps toward a more sustainable tourism future strengthening their position as a responsible and forward-thinking tourism destination.
