Acorn's visit to The Falkland Islands
3rd January 2024
At the end of last year, Acorn’s Director, Kevin Millington spent a month travelling around the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Island Tourism Board are one of Acorn’s longest-standing clients, we have been working with them for over 15 years.
Whilst the trip encompassed several different activities, the main task was the grading of 42 accommodation establishments in the Falkland Islands to assess their product and service quality and grade according to the Excellence in Tourism scheme on a range of 1-5 stars. Those accommodations signed up to the Green Seal scheme, established to encourage sustainability, were also assessed, and awarded membership, silver, or gold levels.
Also commenced the consultation phase of the development of a new Tourism Development Strategy for the Falkland Islands for 2025-2030. Acorn developed the previous strategy (2016-2023) for the Islands, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Falkland Islands currently attracts around 2,000 land-based overnight tourists and over 60,000 cruise visitors. The main markets for both types of tourists are the UK and the USA.
