Shropshire’s Outdoor Activity Development Plan Now Live and In Use
15th January 2026
The Walking, Cycling, and Outdoor Activities Development Plan for Shropshire is now being shared across the county’s outdoor sector, marking an important step from strategy to delivery.
Developed by Acorn Tourism Consulting in close collaboration with Shropshire Council and a wide range of local stakeholders, the plan brings together evidence, consultation, and practical project ideas to support the long-term development of Shropshire’s outdoor offer.
The plan sets out opportunities to strengthen walking, cycling, and outdoor activities in ways that support local businesses, encourage longer stays, and increase participation by residents, while protecting and regenerating Shropshire’s natural landscapes.
Rather than acting as a single delivery programme, the document is designed as a shared resource for the sector. It provides an evidence base that organisations can use to shape their own priorities, develop partnerships, and support funding applications for future projects.
The plan also reflects the growing role of outdoor activity in health and wellbeing, recognising walking, cycling, and nature-based activities as key contributors to physical and mental health outcomes.
The full report and executive summary are now available through Shropshire’s Great Outdoors, alongside the relaunch of the destination website. The work has been supported through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
At Acorn, we are pleased to see the plan now being used by partners across Shropshire. It reflects a shared commitment to practical, evidence-based outdoor tourism development that delivers value for communities, visitors, and the landscape.
