Curaçao developing Tourism Satellite Account roadmap
15th May 2026
Curaçao is taking the next steps towards the development of a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA), with support from Acorn Tourism Consulting through a new TSA Roadmap project for the island.

Commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao, the project brings together key institutions including the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), and the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS).
The first phase of the project focuses on reviewing existing tourism statistics, institutional coordination, and data systems to identify opportunities, gaps and priorities for future TSA implementation. The work will support the development of a long term roadmap aligned with international standards for tourism statistics and economic measurement.

Acorn Tourism Consulting is leading the project, drawing on extensive experience in Tourism Satellite Accounts and tourism statistics systems across small island destinations and international markets. Recent projects have included work in the Falkland Islands, Seychelles, Botswana, The Gambia and the Eastern Caribbean.

As part of the project, Kevin Millington is currently undertaking a field mission in Curaçao, meeting with public and private sector stakeholders and supporting technical discussions around tourism data, economic measurement and long term tourism planning. During the visit, Kevin was also invited to deliver a lecture on tourism statistics at the University of Curaçao.

Tourism Satellite Accounts are internationally recognised frameworks that help destinations better understand tourism’s contribution to the economy, including its impact on employment, businesses and national income. They also support stronger evidence based decision making for tourism development and investment.
The project forms part of a wider effort to strengthen tourism intelligence and build long term institutional capacity for tourism planning in Curaçao.
