Having launched in 2014, the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories is a competition that runs annually, helping to raise awareness of sustainable good practice from tourism destinations throughout the world.
To enter the competition, a destination is required to report on the first 15 criteria for first year applications and 30 criteria for the second year. To get be considered for the next stage of the competition, a destination must reach at least 60% compliance, after which they will then be invited to submit their best practice story.
The winners and runners up are unveiled each year at ITB Berlin, reaching the top 100 can help a destination gain exposure worldwide, whilst also helping to inspire other destinations to follow suite. Entering can also act as a first step for a destination, helping them to start their journey towards full certification.
Green Destinations understands that some destiantions may be unable to produce the funds to enter the competition. They therefore offer a fee waiver programme enabling them a chance to gain recognition for their hard work. Alongside the fee waiver, further support on story writing and reporting is offered.
