Jordan Tourism Satellite Account
17th October 2020
Acorn has been contracted by USAID Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project (BEST) to compile a 2019 Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) for Jordan. Acorn has been involved in three previous TSA compilations in Jordan, which is an essential tool for measuring the direct impact of tourism on the national economy. This compilation is significant is it will be the last TSA to be published before the impact of COVID-19 is assessed when data for 2020 is available in 2021.
Tourism is a key driver of Jordan’s economy - currently it is the single largest employer and the highest generator of foreign exchange. The potential for economic and social development stemming from tourism is high, particularly because Jordan has such stunning natural landscape, world-class historic and religious sites, and a fascinating cultural heritage. To grow and reap greater benefits from tourism, the USAID Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project works with government, private sector and local communities to develop Jordan’s tourism sector to ensure quality, competitiveness and sustainability.
