COVID-19 Scenario Planning for the Falkland Islands
8th June 2020
With direct income from tourism in the Falklands being almost equally split between air and cruise arrivals, Acorn Tourism has been contracted by the Falkland Islands Tourist Board to develop a model that will allow different scenarios to be played out, to forecast the impact these will have on visitor arrivals and revenue. Typical scenarios might include only certain cruise vessels visiting, or only certain air links operating to the Islands. With the main tourist season in the Falklands being October to March, strategic decisions on how the new season will play out need to be made over the next few weeks, and this work is expected to assist with those decisions.
Acorn Tourism has also been contracted to compile a fortnightly COVID-19 Tourism Impact Update publication to keep the sector appraised of the most recent developments regarding the spread of the pandemic. These include strategies other destinations are deploying with regards to opening up to visitors, as well as developments in the cruise and airline sectors.
