Acorn Supports Bellhurst Nature Conservation Trust
27th October 2025
As part of Acorn’s sustainability programme, we’re proud to support the Bellhurst Nature Conservation Trust, a local charity protecting and restoring woodland and farmland across Sussex and Kent.
During a recent visit to one of the Trust’s woodlands near Bodiam, East Sussex, Trustee Jason Lavender showed our team how thoughtful management helps native habitats thrive.
The Trust’s work includes restoring native woodland by reintroducing broadleaf species such as oak, hazel and birch, removing invasive plants, and managing deer to encourage natural regeneration. Rotational coppicing is also used to boost biodiversity, creating essential habitats for wildlife such as the Nightingale.
To safeguard the woodland ecosystem, the Trust avoids heavy machinery, preserves soil health, and has tackled threats such as the spruce beetle using low-impact methods like skylining—lifting felled trees by cable to protect the forest floor.
Alongside conservation, the Trust promotes education and community involvement through guided walks, training sessions and safety courses, helping people connect with and care for local nature.
Acorn is proud to support the Bellhurst Nature Conservation Trust’s mission to ensure these ancient woods continue to flourish for generations to come.
