About
Summary
Alison led the team to provide the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Destination Management and Local Visitor Economic Partnership, with a Sustainable Tourism Action Plan to enable their tourism sector to become more sustainable and environmentally conscious. We identified what sustainability means to the local tourism sector, what the opportunities and challenges in Staffordshire could be addressed to help build their ecotourism offer, and who should be involved in delivery.
Our Approach
Working closely with the Travel Foundation, we conducted consultations and round tables with local industry players. These consultations consisted of round tables and one to one interview.
Additionally, reviews of all previous strategies and reports for the local area were reviewed, ensuring the Sustainability Tourism Action Plan was in line other industry and local government plans.
Outcome
The Sustainable Tourism Action Plan needed to be deliverable by a small tourism team. Therefore, we developed a Plan that was ambitious but also pragmatic, phased and was based on new and existing partnerships. It covered Partnerships, Product Development, Marketing, Inclusivity and Connectivity, Skills and Training and Business Support and provided the new LVEP with specific actions and guidance on how to embed sustainability into its Destination Management Plan.
