Acorn Tourism has joined the international community of experts in sustainable tourism as a Green Destinations Representative.
The Green Destinations’ Standard, recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), is comprised of sustainability management guidelines covering six main themes:
Green Destinations offers a variety of programmes to 'Make places better and more sustainable':
- Award and Certification programme: for global recognition of your destination’s sustainability efforts.
- Top 100 competition: an easy entry to start assessing your destination and to establish it as an industry leader by sharing your Good Practice Story with the world.
- Global Leaders: to be at the forefront of sustainable development and shape a vision for sustainable destinations.
- Training: to build capacity within your destination to continue working towards a more sustainable tourism industry.
Green Destinations is a non-profit foundation that provides tourism communities around the globe with essential tools for sustainability through their different programmes. They are one of the three certification bodies for destinations accredited by the GSTC and one of the founders of the Future of Tourism Coalition, the world's leading initiative for tourism reset and recovery.
Why take the next step towards developing your sustainable tourism industry?
The Green Destinations Standard will help you to assess the current compliance of your destination with the highest social and environmental standards on the market and develop a roadmap to becoming a certified sustainable tourism destination. It will show your private sector stakeholders that you are taking leadership towards creating a sustainable destination and provide them with opportunities to showcase their sustainable activities and projects.
As a Green Destinations Representative, Acorn Tourism will work with you to help assess your current position, provide guidance and best practices examples that can help you work towards developing a more sustainable tourism destination.
